I want to highlight a source that has recently proved pretty valuable to me.

http://www.the27thmaine.com

Is a web site that focuses on the 27th Regiment during the civil war. The 27th was formed in fall of 1862. 949 men from York County (mostly) served a 9 month tour. (Or a slightly longer tour).

I found the site helpful, and the site owner was also very helpful.

I visited the Old York Historical Museum Library today ~ they were wonderfully helpful. I did manage to get a few new leads.

I am looking for new information concerning any of these persons.

Benjamin Norman of New Vineyard married Hannah Beal of York on 30 Jan 1825. By 1830, this couple is living in New Vineyard, ME with three daughters under the age of 5 years.

Later, from the book, 'The History of the Town of Industry', we learn that Julia A Norman, the daughter of Benjamin and Hannah, married William G Lewis, in Oct. 1852.

Any clues anyone can throw may way will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone know anything about the cemeteries in Cutler, Maine. I am still looking for David Bryant and thought I would check cemeteries. Also I recently found out that he was a sea captain in the 1840's until 1860's.
In the 1840's he was master of a schooner called Elizabeth Ann and in the 1860's called the Parallel. Anyone know any good references on the shipping business in the 1800's?
Thanks.
Zebedee

The Documenting Maine Jewry project (www.MaineJews.org) collects short histories on the many of these individuals and organizations which have made a contribution to the Jewish history of Maine and uploads this information up on the web. Since the 1800s, there have been Jewish communities in Maine in and around Auburn/Lewiston, Augusta, Biddeford/Saco, Bangor, Rockland, Portland and Waterville. Individual Jews also lived in many small towns and villages throughout the State.

This project, sponsored by the Jewish Community Alliance of Maine, has information on over 25,000 Jews with strong Maine ties and information on 180 Maine Jewish community or religious organizations. Our on-line cemetery data files now have information on over 6500 burials. Of these burial records, 1400 now also have headstone images on-line. In addition there are scanned documents and photography from community organizations in Auburn, Old Town, Portland, and Bangor.

There is open access to all the burial records. Registration is needed to access and update the remainder of the records.

Recent additions to the database include

May 2009

o	Hebrew School Spelling Award Ceremony (Bangor) 1947
o	Community Center Seder (Bangor) 1947 c
o	Recollection of Rita Weisberg (Portland) as presented at Temple Beth El November 2004
o	Temple Beth El 1954 Newsletter (Portland)
o	Jewish Community Center Bulletins for 1946, 1948, and 1954(Portland)
o	Girl Scouts at Jewish Community Center (Portland) 1945(Portland)
o	additional information on the Weisberg, Turitz, Lewis, Goldberg, and Dion families

April 2009

o	Recollection of Solomon Crasnick (Portland) by his daughter Elaine Kahaner
o	Recollection of Phil and Bertha Rudek (Portland) by their daughter Cynthia Rudek Pedlikin
o	Shenson & Jolovitz grocery store (Waterville), circa 1915
o	baseball team at the Jewish Community Center (Portland), 1963
o	sport team at the Jewish Community Center (Portland), circa 1960
